Father’s To Be (Part 1)

The weddings we have photographed over the years have been so much fun - wonderful blessings! Now a few of those bride and grooms are soon to be parents! I’ve been getting some phone calls for maternity photography from these couples. I’m so excited for them! I wrote some words of wisdom for my male friends a while back about being the husband of a pregnant wife. I sent this to my friend Kassandra, who is due really, really soon.  She said she and her husband, David, had fun reading it.  Now, she didn’t mention if David did all these things but .. they sound really happy when I hear from them … so… it’s all good.

INTRO
Mae’s Guide for Husbands With Pregnant Wives

I have sympathy for the husbands of pregnant woman. I was a pregnant woman a few times. Because of that, I do have gratitude for the husband that God has given to me. Mind you, not all pregnant women go through difficult times. I do know a few who just glowed with excitement and joy during their pregnancy. These women gained more energy, better health, and more positive attitudes, as they sailed through their pregnancy. For the husbands of those women … I have little sympathy. And for those woman……I have some unresolved hostility.

So, because I have been pregnant a few times, pregnant friends have asked me for ideas on dealing with their husbands during their pregnancies. I thought about it and I decided that it was more about helping the husbands deal with THEM, than helping them deal with their husbands. So here are some thoughts I’ve shared with some of those husbands.

These are just things to keep in mind. Remember not all women are alike and thus there is no cut and dry solutions for solving all the problems. Also, these pregnancy issues are not really “problems” that needs to be solved. I know men love to solve problems. Women come to men with issues to discuss, just to discuss and get off their chests, and men will seek to solve the problem with actual logical solutions. Sorry guys, women don’t always want a resolution. Sometimes just your ears, a hug, an ‘I love you” and a smile are all they need. Of course sometimes that’s not enough but… that’s another story.

Peanut Butter and Jelly on Toast

Do you eat peanut butter and jelly for lunch? We never had that for lunch when I was growing up. My husband fed that to our kids for lunch one time and I said, “That’s not a lunch!” Then I find out … it IS in most households. There I was fixing hot lunches when I could just slap on some peanut butter and jelly on some bread, stick them together and say, “Lunch!!” I guess that’s what happens when you grow up on a tiny island and eat rice all day. Ya miss out! Life is so easy now!

“Kids! Lunch!!”

(Kids: PB&J again???!!!!)

Another “toast” thought that affected me for many days …. still boggles my mind …… “If toast always lands butter-side down, and cats always land on their feet, what happens if you strap toast on the back of a cat and drop it?” Anonymous

Okay, my husband told me not to post this but … I thought it was funny! Hmmm… I hope young children don’t read my blog. I guess I should write some kind of warning .. “Children, do not try this (well at least without adult supervision.)” Good thing we don’t have a cat.
