“The nice thing about meditation is that it makes doing nothing quite respectable.” -Paul Dean.
My family and friends tell me I have too much energy and that I need more down time and more sleep. So I try to stop myself, in the middle of my work, and give myself “quiet time” and usually one of three things happen. One, I get my prayer time. Two, I think of too many other things. Three, my kids happen (need I say more?).
I had a number two day the other day. I started thinking about the ocean and the waves - peaceful - calm - beautiful - the swaying ocean plants - the fish swimming around - fish tacos - Santa Barbara - whoa! So I tried again and thought about the mountains and the trees - green - fresh air - peaceful - calm - lakes - ripple of water - upstream - swimming - Salmon - fish tacos - Santa Barbara. Apparently my mind was on dinner. Of course it WAS near dinner time and I hadn’t made dinner yet … that was probably the problem with trying to find peace at that time of day. I told my husband we had to drive to Santa Barbara for fish tacos. Never mind that it’s a three hour drive.
Well, that didn’t work and I made dinner - no fish, no tacos, no quiet time. It was a sad day.
So if you ever go to Santa Barbara, can you stop and get me some fish tacos at this little Mexican Italian food-stand restaurant on State Street and Chapala? I don’t even know its name! It used to be called Don Pepe’s but it isn’t anymore. We discovered it when I shot a wedding out there. I didn’t take a picture of my taco :(. Of course I don’t make it a habit to take pictures of my food. Instead I have a picture of the bride and groom. (Not that THAT’s bad - they were a sweet couple with great guests!) Seeing them takes me back to the beautiful Santa Barbara Courthouse , the smell of the ocean, and wonderful fish tacos.
The reception was at the El Paseo Restaurant and they were good too, but I was still craving my fish tacos from earlier that day. He’s a link to more from the wedding: Isaac & Vicky
I gotta find a better time for my “quiet time.”
